US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan sparked dissatisfaction from China and announced that live-fire military exercises will be held at six locations. The U.S. side is also closely monitoring the situation. The Merco Press reported earlier that the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet was operating around Taiwan.

U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration is taking extra military precautions to prevent China from retaliation after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, the report said.

A Pacific Fleet spokesman said the U.S. Navy had the USS Ronald Reagan strike group with the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli for “routine operations in the South China Sea and the Philippine Sea.”

The aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, the destroyer USS Higgins and the guided-missile cruisers USS Antietam and Chancellorsville are on “summer patrol deployments”, while the USS Tripoli is on “routine operations” in the Philippine Sea.

The amphibious assault ship USS America is heading towards Taiwan waters.

The report pointed out that although the United States has not granted Taiwan diplomatic recognition, it has always provided Taiwan with means of self-defense.

The report also quoted Pelosi recently listing China’s wrongdoings around the world:

1. Brutal suppression of political freedom and human rights in Hong Kong, even the arrest of Catholic Cardinal Chen Rijun.
2. Obliterate the language, culture, religion and identity of the Tibetan people.
3. In Xinjiang, Beijing is carrying out genocide against Muslim Uighurs and other ethnic minorities.
4. Across China, target and arrest activists, religious freedom leaders, and others who dare to defy the regime.

In this case, “we cannot stand idly by as the CCP continues to threaten Taiwan — and democracy itself.”
