Fake answers, real scam
Finally, the fourth and final most common theme is “wrong” answers. These include, for example, emails pretending to provide false responses to the interlocutor to extract personal information, or even, according to Cofense, email chains containing malware.
In May 2023, for example, email chains were the most used malicious messages, notably due to a spike in the use of Qakbot, a since-dismantled Trojan virus that was introduced into these chains.
