This group was formed a few months ago. Its members worry about the fall of centrist parties and believe that a new force must emerge at the center to prevent voters from turning to the extremes. “This is a serious discussion. We share the feeling that the current offer at the center is unsatisfactory. We are now discussing the possibilities that exist to change this situation,” explained Mr Jahjah.
The question of creating a party as such is not settled. “It can be a party or a movement, but also a new pressure group,” according to Mr Jahjah. “We feel that a new force is needed at the center but there is still a gap between this observation and the creation of a new party. For the moment, we are simply looking for ways to stimulate political debate”, added M Torfs.
The group should decide around the new year in order to be ready, if necessary, at least a year before the elections. “Of course, the elections play a role in our timing,” acknowledged Mr. D’Hooghe.
