The loot, estimated at more than 35,000 euros, was stolen last February from a warehouse.

He had made the trunk by pulling with a tractor a trailer loaded with 200,000 chocolate eggs: for this unusual case, a Briton was sentenced Thursday to 18 months in prison.

Joby Pool, 32, broke into a warehouse in Telford, central England, on February 11 at 7:30 p.m. local time. Using a stolen tractor, he left with a trailer holding chocolate eggs from the British brand Cadbury worth more than 35,000 euros, including nearly 200,000 popular chocolate “Creme eggs” filled with sweet cream.

He then joined a nearby highway before surrendering to the police with his hands up, according to the account of the events presented before Shrewsbury Crown Court, where he was on trial.

“Sincere Remorse”

He had pleaded guilty to theft, material damage and driving without insurance, and his lawyer Debra White insisted during the hearing on the “sincere remorse” expressed by the defendant who accepted “full responsibility” for his actions.

She explained that he was going through a difficult period in his personal life, having led him to dive into drugs and alcohol, without convincing judge Anthony Lowe.

The latter noted that the operation had required “significant planning” and said he was “fairly convinced” that other people were involved.

At the time of his arrest, local police bragged on Twitter that they had “saved Easter” thanks to the arrest of the burglar. In addition to his prison sentence, Joby Pool had six points removed from his license for driving without insurance.
