Traffic will be complicated by protest by military veterans

A group of retired soldiers is dissatisfied with the Comprehensive Development Law because it only offers a payment of Q1,000 for three years in exchange for work in the environment.

Vehicular mobility may be slower this Tuesday due to the demonstration that announced the National Alliance of Military Veterans in the departments, in Congress and the Presidential House.

The letter sent by the group that brings together approximately one thousand military veterans to the governor of Guatemala indicates that the peaceful protest will be in Petén, La Ruidosa and Puerto Barrios, in Izabal, San Julián crossing and Cobán park, in Alta Verapaz, and Santa Elena , in Baja Verapaz; also, in Río Hondo, Zacapa; San Esteban and Chiquimula, in Chicimula; and Sanarate, in El Progreso.

They will also pass in Cuatro Caminos, Totonicapán; Los Encuentros, in Sololá; step La Virgen, in San Marcos; El Migrante pass, in Quetzaltenango; Malacatancito, in Huehuetenango; crossing El Boquerón, in Quiché; Puerto Quetzal and Tiquisate, in Escuintla; San Antonio, in Suchitepéquez; Castillo Armas bridge, in Retalhuleu; and in the Chimaltenango bypass.

In the capital, they are expected to reach the Private Secretariat of the Presidency, the Presidential House and Congress.

military against law

The announcement of the demonstration is signed by Manuel Ramírez, Neptalí García, Demecio González and Javier López and they request “support” because there are elderly veterans.

The protest is to demand that the Constitutional Court leave the Comprehensive Development Law without legal matter, since it only offers a payment of Q36 thousand in three years.

However, some associations of retired soldiers ask that they be Q120 thousand, which there is no budget for that commitment by President Alejandro Giammattei.

Some lawyers and representatives insist that this promise is immoral, since the military were paid for their services, so it would be a double payment. At the same time, it could be considered an offense to the families of the victims during the internal armed conflict.
