This Monday, a tragedy occurred in the boulevard Franklin Roosevelt, in Ghent, as reported by our colleagues from Het Laatste Nieuws. One person was shot while walking in the street. The Ghent police are on site, with the federal and the prosecution.
“Around 5:45 a.m. I heard two men arguing in the lobby,” said another resident of the building. “Then there was a bang! At first I thought it was a trashcan closing, so I was shocked when I saw help coming.”
Around 1 p.m., we learned that it was in fact a death during a search carried out Monday morning in a building on rue Franklin Roosevelt in Ghent, said the prosecution of East Flanders.
“One or more shots were fired during the search. A man was hit and died on the spot,” said the prosecution, without giving further details. An investigation has been opened to shed light on the precise circumstances of the facts. An examining magistrate, a medical examiner, a ballistics expert and the federal police laboratory descended on the spot.
