The adoptive mother, Lauren M. of Pennsylvania, wrote to her husband before the crime that she would “kill him.” That meant little Landon, who died in February at the age of five – as a result of horrible abuse at the hands of his adoptive parents.
Lauren and her husband Jacob took the boy to the hospital on January 30. The child had lost consciousness by this point and was covered in bruises. The couple had previously waited a full day before finally taking the five-year-old to the hospital. A week later, Landon died as a result of his severe injuries.
In the meantime, the adoptive parents had to answer before a court.
“Landon had one blunt force trauma to the head and neck, blunt force trauma to the torso, and blunt force trauma to his extremitiesWestmoreland County District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli said at a news conference announcing the indictment.
This means the five-year-old was so badly abused by his parents that he was unable to stand, eat or drink.
After the child’s death, Lauren and Jacob began a fundraiser to pay for Landon’s funeral. A total of 5,000 dollars, i.e. around 4,554 euros, were collected. The call for donations has since been discontinued.
Injuries caused significant pain and led to unconsciousness
A doctor at Children’s Hospital testified that the five-year-old suffered three cerebral hemorrhages, his brain was “erased”. Doctors also said the child had bruises, new and old, and evidence of trauma from “multiple episodes of physical abuse.”
“His injuries were causing significant pain at the time they were inflicted and leading to Functional impairments, including the inability to stand, the inability to eat or drink and loss of consciousness,” a report said.
The adoptive mother and husband exchanged text messages that were “full of contempt for the child.”
According to interviews and text messages recorded in the court document, Lauren, 34, expressed an intense hatred for the boy. His five siblings reportedly told police that she beat him with her hand and a wooden spoon or sprayed him with a spray bottle. When he cried, she became “even angrier”.
The other children testified that their mother would only hit Landon because “he’s not learning his lesson.” Former colleagues of the woman said Lauren hated her son. She often said that he was “difficult to love”. Texts between the couple from April 2022 until the boy’s death were “filled with contempt” for the child, investigators said.
Lauren and Jacob M. have since been convicted of murder. Rest in peace, little Landon.
