The municipality of Guacamayas, north of Boyacá, is mourning the tragic accident of a bus carrying children to the San Diego de Alcalcá Technical Educational Institution.

The school route was mobilizing around 6:30 am this Wednesday, May 31, on a rural road in the village of El Chiveche when it rolled down a chasm of around 100 meters. Two minors, ages 15 and 12, lost their lives at the scene.
Four other students along with the driver were injured and were taken to care centers in nearby municipalities.
Hours later, a child under the age of 14 lost her life, who had been admitted to the San Antonio de Soatá Hospital. According to the doctors’ report, he had multiple traumas and suffered several cardiorespiratory arrests while receiving care.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning.

A 14-year-old student remains at the Soatá Hospital waiting to be referred to the city of Tunja, as his prognosis is reserved. The other injured are in the San José Hospital in the municipality of El Cocuy.
“This has been one of the most difficult days. We lost three lives, the dreams of three minors were snuffed out. My solidarity with the families who today suffer this great loss and with all the people of Guacamayas in the midst of this tragedy that mourns Boyacá,” said Ramiro Barragán, governor of the department.
The authorities carry out the investigation to establish the cause of the accident and verify if the bus had the correct documents to operate as a school route.
