Train and Car Collision Causes Interruption in Rail Traffic Between Landen and Leuven

2023-08-16 06:44:03

Rail traffic was interrupted on Wednesday morning between Landen and Leuven, in both directions, due to a collision between a train and a car, which occurred a few hours earlier, around 11:45 p.m., at the Neerwinden level crossing, said know Infrabel.

Travelers can use replacement buses. Trains are diverted from Hasselt via Diest/Aarschot to Leuven.

The approximately 80 passengers present in the train which struck the car were evacuated by bus. The vehicle still had to be towed, as well as the train, which, badly damaged, should not be able to leave on its own.

The network manager might not estimate the time to resume traffic. The police and prosecutors are investigating. The level crossing operated normally, says Infrabel.
