Ajax missed the injured Steven Bergwijn and Steven Berghuis. Van ‘t Schip therefore opted for a system with five defenders, just like he did against AZ a week earlier. The club from Amsterdam remained without a goal for the first time since November 25.
Brian Brobbey was the big man at Ajax, with a goal and assist on Kenneth Taylor’s 2-0. But Van ‘t Schip was also very satisfied with Ahmetcan Kaplan, who appeared at the kick-off for the first time. Ajax took him over from Trabzonspor in the summer of 2022 for more than 9 million euros. However, Kaplan soon suffered a serious knee injury.
“He was calm on the ball, with an overview on the left and right,” said Van ‘t Schip. “He was also stiff in the duels with Lammers, who did not have an easy afternoon. It is nice to see that he is back after such a serious injury. We have an added player.”
