Troca Suspeita’: Swedish Thriller Tops Netflix Charts in 60 Countries

The four-part Swedish thriller Troca Suspeita, also known internationally as A Couple of Lies, has quickly established itself as a global streaming phenomenon. Released on October 30, 2026, the series reached the top of Netflix charts in 60 countries within its first week, securing the number-one spot in 33 of them, according to data from Flix Patrol.

Directed by Kasper Barfoed, the miniseries follows two couples who decide to trade homes for a vacation, swapping a residence in the Stockholm archipelago for a villa in Sicily. While the premise mirrors the lighthearted nature of a romantic comedy, the narrative quickly shifts into a psychological thriller as the couples encounter unsettling inconsistencies and hidden secrets. The entire series can be viewed in approximately three hours, making it a popular choice for binge-watching in a single afternoon.

Production and Origins

The series is based on the 2023 novel Bytet by Swedish author Stefan Ahnhem. The adaptation was written by Amanda Högberg and Axel Stjärne, working in collaboration with Ahnhem. Notably, the screen adaptation shifted the story’s setting from the original book’s location in Santa Cruz, California, to the coast of Sicily.

A Complex Web of Secrets

The cast features Frida Gustavsson and Fares as Helene and Carl, alongside Emma Appleton and Jakob Oftebro as Scarlett and Adam. As the narrative unfolds, the characters must deal with mounting tensions, police inquiries, and discovering past connections among the four protagonists. The plot explores the darker side of home-swapping, driven by the question of what the worst-case scenario might be when staying in a stranger’s private space. Despite the resolution of the series’ central mystery, the ultimate fate of certain characters, such as the specific punishment for Helene, remains an open question for the audience.
