Truck Driver Sentenced to Prison for Fatal Accident: Petya Chivieva Case

Due to his “reckless” and “reckless” behavior, truck driver Réjean Houde was sent to prison for eight months for taking the life of Petya Chivieva, 31, on Champlain Boulevard in September 2019.

The judge, Christian Boulet, admitted having seriously considered a community sentence, as requested by the defense, but came to the conclusion that it would be “not proportional” to the offense.

“I conclude that the need to denounce is so pressing that incarceration is the only appropriate sentence,” declared the magistrate, despite the “shame” and “regrets” expressed by the accused and the fact that his risk of recurrence is “zero”.
