ASML is developing a new generation of EUV, a bid of 400 million US dollars. (Archyde.com)
[Financial Channel/Comprehensive Report]TSMC, Samsung, Intel and other major semiconductor manufacturers have started the advanced process war, and the demand for EUV has greatly increased. The next-generation High-NA EUV equipment has higher precision and more design parts, and the price has skyrocketed. According to Archyde.com, the High-NA EUV being developed by ASML is 30% larger than the previous generation and requires at least three Boeing 747s to be shipped in batches, with an estimated price of US$400 million (about 11.8 billion Taiwan dollars) each.
Archyde.comreport, ASML had 5 high-NA EUV orders in hand in the fourth quarter of last year, and Intel also placed an order in early 2022. It plans to start delivery in 2025, and the pilot order is expected to start in 2024. ASML is currently cooperating with IMEC, known as the Switzerland of the semiconductor industry, and a prototype will be available in the first half of 2023.

The report pointed out that EUV equipment already requires three Boeing 747s to be shipped in batches. The next-generation High-NA EUV machine will be about 30% larger than the previous generation, and it is estimated that each unit will cost $400 million.
Dan Hutcheson, chief executive of VLSI Research, a market research firm, emphasized that High-NA EUV will provide chipmakers with a significant advantage, which is a bit like whoever has the best gun will get a head start.
The report also affirmed ASML’s huge profits due to EUV, emphasizing that ASML controls more than 90% of the exposure machine market, and because the development cost is too high, no competitors are currently trying to build an EUV system. This gave ASML a good 10 years, with its share price soaring 1,000% and a market value of over 200 billion euros.
