Twitch permanently and mistakenly bans streamer AngelBePlayin

A Twitch stramer said in a stream that he would destroy straight people. In doing so, he was apparently referring to beating her in Mario Kart. However, he was permanently banned from the streaming platform Twitch for the testimony of “hate speech”. After a passionate appeal to Twitch and with the support of the community, the ban was lifted.

Who is the streamer?

  • The streamer “AngelBePLayin” is a relatively small Twitch streamer with around 2000 followers. When he streams, an average of 16 people watch him.
  • The streamer mainly shows Pokémon games on Twitch, including Pokémon: Sword / Shield and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl. He describes himself as “Togepi-Enthusiast.“
  • The streamer has been on Twitch since June 2020.

Permanent ban because of “hate speech”

What kind of spell was that? The streamer received a permanent hate speech ban on Monday January 10th. This includes “promoting, glorifying and supporting violence, physical harm or death against others due to their protected properties.”

Apparently, the streamer was banned for a statement he made after a successful race in Mario Kart. He said, “I’ll go now and destroy more heterosexuals.”

That was apparently meant as a humorous saying. “To destony” is to be equated here with “defeat”.

The streamer fell from the clouds at the spell.

“Twitch ban takes part of my livelihood”

This is what the streamer said about the spell: The streamer found the ban extremely unfair. He looked for help because Twitch was part of how he made a living.

He also found it unfair because Twitch defends straight people here, while creators who belong to the LGBTQ + community are regularly attacked and nothing happens there. One speaks here of “hate raids.” Streamers had protested against it as early as 2021 and called for a strike.

“Twitch is doing something to protect straight people and banning my channel while ignoring and abandoning the BIPOC and queer creators so they can deal with a ridiculous amount of hate speech on their own. That’s ridiculous.”

That was the discussion: The streamer shared a lot of tweets from people who were also angry about the ban. Users said:

  • “So it’s okay if there are hate raids without anything happening. But a people-of-color creator is banned without warning. Makes perfect sense. You’re playing with someone’s income and taking half away from them! “
  • “Stop trying so hard to protect the rights of white straight people. We don’t need that “
  • “That is not correct. Please let a real person look at this and when a real person has decided that, then he must be retrained. Unbanned this account! “

Twitch unbans streamers – Apologizing for mistakes

That’s how it turned out: Twitch actually apologized and unbanned the streamer. That was a mistake on your part, as a tweet shows.

Twitch’s ban policy is controversial. Errors always crop up here. A public protest seems to solve the problem with relative accuracy:
