ESTER Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, Indonesia’s women’s singles representative, expressed her regret for her lack of calm and focus when facing her Japanese opponent, Aya Ohori, in the final match of the 2024 Uber Cup group stage at the Chengdu Hi Tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium, Chengdu, China, Wednesday (1 /5). Even though the match was fierce, Ester had to admit Aya Ohori’s superiority after losing in a three-game battle that lasted 74 minutes with a final score of 21-14, 20-22, 18-21.
“I apologize for not being able to contribute points to the team. I feel my game came out quite well, but maybe there were several moments where I lacked focus, while my opponent was able to appear more mature,” said Ester after the match, quoted from Between, Wednesday (1/5).
In the first game, Ester seemed to dominate with a fast game that made her win 21-14 easily. However, Aya Ohori put up fierce resistance in the following games.
In the second game, even though she was behind, Ester managed to maintain her game and balance the score until she finally lost narrowly with a score of 20-22. The third game took place with the same tension, but this time Aya Ohori managed to beat Ester with a score of 18-21.
“I felt like I lacked focus at several crucial moments in the match. The opponent played with an attacking and fast style, and I tried to follow that rhythm. However, I have to increase my focus and find calm in my game,” he added.
This defeat made Japan temporarily ahead with a score of 2-1. However, Indonesia still has hope after Gregoria Mariska Tunjung succeeded in giving her country a 1-0 lead, followed by winning one point from the women’s doubles.
There are still two Indonesian representatives who will compete in the final group phase match against Japan, namely Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi in the singles sector and Meilysa Trias Puspitasari/Rachel Allessya Rose in the doubles sector. (Z-10)
