Ubisoft Forward Demo: What to Expect in June 2021 Gaming Showcase

We’re all pretty excited to see what the summer gaming festival and the big behemoth logistics of the Xbox Games Showcase can bring us, but perhaps this June that could be a bit of a dark horse is the upcoming Ubisoft Forward demo.It won’t be as huge as the Xbox, or as diverse as Keighley’s show, but thanks to the newtrailerwe largely know what we’re getting here, and unless some real disaster is headed our way, everything looks fine.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at what we hope to see at Ubisoft Advance on June 12. Given my previous comments about the disaster, I thought it was fair to start with Skull and Bones, the pirate game Ubisoft hoped would capture the magic of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, but ended up being one of the biggest messes in recent memory. While it’s not featured in Ubisoft’s Forward trailer, we can’t imagine it disappearing entirely, because it needs to be present somehow if we’re not worried about the worst. We’ve been planning to play this game for a few years, hoping we’ll eventually get it later this year, but even if we did, Ubisoft had a hard time guiding Skull and Bones out of the rocky shallows.

It’s unlikely we’ll be putting GOTY stickers on Skull and Bones, but as long as it’s not an outright disaster, it’ll be interesting to see some more gameplay and see what we’ll actually be doing on the high seas.

In addition to Skull and Bones, though, Ubisoft will be showing some major games, as the trailer confirms. One such game is Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Scheduled for release in October, we imagine there will be some detailed gameplay in the Ubisoft Forward presentation, a deeper dive into how the game brings the series back to its roots, and a look at that with examples. Interestingly, if Ubisoft is willing to make Assassin’s Creed Mirage part of the Summer Game Fest Game Days, that means there could be some hands-on experience with the game. This is more a hope than an expectation, but given the game’s imminent release, this might be a good time to show it off. If not, we figure there will always be Gamescom.

Assassin’s Creed fans will have a good time Ubisoft moving forward, as not only will they hear more about Assassin’s Creed Mirage, but Assassin’s Creed codename Jade has been confirmed to be part of the showcase alongside VR game Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR. Details on both games are still scant, and while we can’t imagine spending a lot of time with them, we’re sure to learn a lot more, allowing us to hype up more editions of the historical series.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is also confirmed to be being revealed. The game was originally slated to release sometime this year, but it now looks rather uncertain when it will land, with early 2024 looking like the most likely window. That doesn’t mean the game is years away, though, so Ubisoft will definitely be on stage to show off some gameplay from the single-player open-world game. We’ve heard bits and pieces about the gameplay so far, but now it’s time to see some of it and get us really hooked for this Avatar game. You can’t go wrong with a Windows announcement with a release date or closer.

The first-person shooter we know of is XDefiant, and we know it’s going to be there to show off its progress since its April beta.

For racing fans, Crew Motorfest will also be there. Set on the beautiful island of Oahu, we’re eager to see more visuals of the open-world racing game and see how Ubisoft builds on the franchise from 2018’s The Crew 2.

That sums up what we’ll almost certainly see in Ubisoft moving forward, so what about wildcard options? Well, we have some, the first being Massive’s Star Wars game. Recent rumors have it targeting an early next year release, so it’s not entirely out of the question to believe we could see a reveal trailer and even more within a week.

If you really want to take a daydream tour with us, maybe somewhere, there we have a chance to get some updates on Beyond Good and Evil 2. We know it’s highly unlikely, but as long as the game isn’t cancelled, we’re holding out that it might exist. It’ll be great to see what the Splinter Cell remake actually looks like, because the reveal of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (which won’t be there, by the way) shows Ubisoft’s definition of what a remake sounds or looks like Not as good as Resident Evil 4 or Final Fantasy VII: Remake…
