Lukashenko maintains that “the US is the only country that benefits from what is happening”

The Belarusian authorities have assured this Monday that “everything is ready” to host the meeting between the negotiating delegations of Russia and Ukraine to try to reach an agreement to end the conflict unleashed after the Russian invasion, which began on February 24.
“In Belarus, everything is ready to host the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Waiting for the delegations to arrive,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said on its Twitter account, along with a photo of a table with Russian and Ukrainian flags.
The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, has stated that he does not believe that the contacts, which are going to take place near the Pripyat River, on the border between Ukraine and Belarus, will give “results”.
“I don’t really believe in the outcome of this meeting, but let them try. So that no citizen of Ukraine has any doubts that I, as president, did not try to stop the war when there was even the slightest chance,” he said.
Zelensky reported that the decision to hold this meeting was negotiated with the Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, with whom he had a telephone conversation on Sunday in which they agreed that the meeting would take place “without preconditions.”
In return, Lukashenko promised that “all planes, helicopters and missiles stationed on Belarusian territory remain on the ground during the trip, the talks and the return of the Ukrainian delegation,” Zelensky confirmed on his Telegram channel.
Lukashenko himself said on Sunday that “the United States is the only country that benefits from what is happening,” according to the Belarusian news agency BelTA. “In this way it can show Europe its place and weed out competitors,” he argued.
On Sunday, Russia sent a delegation to Belarus to negotiate a cessation of hostilities agreement with Ukraine made up of “by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and other departments, including the presidential administration,” the Kremlin spokesman explained.
