On January 25, the Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs of United Nations (OCHA) said it needs $4.3 billion to fund the humanitarian activities in Yemen in 2023.

OCHA announced it plans to provide emergency aid to 14 million people in the war-torn Middle Eastern country this year. According to OCHA estimates, a total of 21.6 million people, or two-thirds of Yemen’s population, need humanitarian assistance this year, down from 23.4 million in 2022.

Last year, OCHA spent $4.27 billion on humanitarian efforts to support 17.9 million people in Yemen.

Yemen sink in civil war since 2014 when Houthi forces seized the capital Sanaa and much of the country’s north, sending the internationally recognized government of Yemen into exile in Saudi Arabia.

In 2015, the Saudi-led Arab Coalition intervened to restore power to the internationally recognized government in Yemen. War and conflict in Yemen has caused one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with more than 80% of the country’s population now dependent on aid.
