Stomach cancer develops sporadically with the participation of external risk factors such as infection Helicobacter pylori (HP infection)nutritional and lifestyle features, told “Gazeta.Ru” chief physician of the clinic “mamma” oncologist Anton Ivanovreports Sports.kz.

“Improper diet, such as constant overeating, fasting or eating too often, irritates the stomach wall. The bacterium Helicobacter pylori also plays an important role, which, when multiplied, can cause gastritis, ulcers and cancer,” said Ivanov.

The ability of a bacterium to cause damage to the gastrointestinal tract may vary depending on the individual characteristics of the organism that the bacterium colonizes. In other words, the presence of the bacterium does not always lead to stomach cancer, but people with it have a higher risk of developing the disease, says Ivanov.

According to the doctor, these bacteria produce substances that negatively affect the epithelium of the stomach. As a result, he becomes vulnerable to gastric juice, which begins to eat away at him. In addition, due to the presence of a large amount of bacteria in the stomach, the immune system is activated, which leads to constant inflammation, which also negatively affects the condition of the stomach.

“In addition, the risk of developing stomach cancer if there is a relative with such a diagnosis in the family increases by 2-3 times. This is partly due to the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in families, as well as the inheritance of genetic mutations. That is, it is not the disease itself that is inherited, but gene mutations that cause a predisposition to cancer,” the specialist emphasized.
