Unitree Warns of Commercial Risks Amid Humanoid Robot Stock Surge

Hangzhou-based Unitree Robotics saw its shares rise by more than 30% over three trading sessions on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s STAR Market, adding nearly 40 billion yuan in market value. The rapid rally prompted the company to issue an abnormal stock trading disclosure urging investor caution amid early-stage commercialization risks.

The Bottom Line

  • Valuation Surge: Unitree’s market value expanded to 212.8 billion yuan following a cumulative price swing exceeding 30% across three consecutive trading sessions in October.
  • Commercial Warning: Management publicly flagged uncertainties surrounding technological maturity, downstream market demand, and industrial chain support.
  • Financial Turnaround: The hardware maker posted first-half 2026 revenue of 1.152 billion yuan, up 48.54% year over year, swinging to a net profit of 274 million yuan.

Analysts Divide over Unitree Stock Valuation

The sharp upward movement in Unitree Robotics (688836.SS) shares pushed the company’s valuation to roughly 31.9 billion USD, driven by growing global enthusiasm for humanoid hardware. The stock traded at 526.03 yuan per share following gains on October 16, 19, and 20. Despite this momentum, institutional analysts remain deeply divided. Bank of America Securities rates the stock “Underperform” with a 350 yuan price target, while Nomura issued a “Buy” rating with a target of 370 yuan, both sitting well below the prevailing market price.

On October 21, the firm issued a formal stock exchange filing addressing the volatility. “The humanoid robot industry is still in the early stages of commercialisation, and there are uncertainties regarding technological maturity, the cultivation of downstream market demand, and the supporting capabilities of the industrial chain,” the company stated. The stock debuted in August at a price 629% above its initial public offering price of 150.80 yuan, though recent prices still trail that initial first-day spike.

Unitree Develops Autonomous Feedback Loop for Robots

Founder Wang Xingxing addressed the intersection of hardware and artificial intelligence at the company’s partner conference in Hangzhou. Unitree is developing an autonomous feedback loop titled “Unitree Rehearsal.” The project aims to reduce manual programming by allowing humanoid robots to independently search research papers, write code, and execute simulations before running physical trials.

Nearly half of the proceeds from Unitree’s August IPO—specifically 2.022 billion yuan—is earmarked for intelligent robot model R&D. The hardware manufacturer has previously collaborated with Nvidia on the H2 Plus reference platform and open-sourced its UnifoLM embodied large model series. Wang previously characterized the current industrial state as approaching a "ChatGPT moment" in embodied intelligence, noting that the industry was nearing a breakthrough where robots could operate in unfamiliar environments and complete most tasks using simple voice or text instructions.

Competitive Positioning Against Global Peers

Market share data highlights intense competition across both domestic and international fronts. Unitree shipped approximately 5,900 to 7,000 units, capturing about 31% of the market. Meanwhile, international counterparts continue aggressive scaling efforts. Tesla is retooling its Fremont factory lines for the mass production of its Optimus V3 prototype before the end of 2026, ahead of a long-term capacity target of one million units annually.

The broader embodied intelligence sector faces strategic consolidation pressures. Large language model developers possess vastly superior computing clusters and capital resources compared to standalone hardware firms. As commercial applications expand from controlled factory floors into unpredictable warehouse and residential environments, the ability to convert hardware deployments into sustainable operating margins remains the primary test for publicly listed robotics manufacturers.
