Unprecedented Hollywood Strikes – Threat to Thousands of Livelihoods: Ted Sarandos’s Potential Solution

If Hollywood actors and authors do not agree on new collective agreements with producers, thousands of livelihoods are at stake. Now Ted Sarandos could soften the hardened fronts.

For the first time since 1960, writers and actors are on strike in Hollywood at the same time, and the tone is getting rougher, if that’s even possible. Deadline magazine quoted a studio executive as saying: “The ultimate solution would be to drag things out until union members lose their homes.” That sounds ice cold, but it’s already a reality, as Kerry O’Neill assured at this week’s strike in front of the Netflix headquarters in Los Angeles: “I can’t afford rent or groceries at the moment.” O’Neill wrote and starred on Amazon’s surprise hit “Jury Duty,” which recently earned four Emmy nominations: “I got double the money. It’s crazy how you’re an Emmy nominee and you’re dependent on food stamps at the same time.”
