More than a month after the disappearance of little Émile in this hamlet in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, it is today the fountain in the steep main street of Haut-Vernet that raises many questions. It is there that the trace of the little boy of two and a half years is lost and that he seems to have evaporated. It is from there that the work of the investigators is concentrated today.
Disappearance of Emile: new revelations, an arson from the past… never solved
This fountain, placed on the side of the road, is placed sixty meters in front of the house of the little boy’s maternal grandparents. This is precisely where the three Saint-Hubert breed dogs of the National Gendarmerie stopped when they followed the scent of the little boy.
“These dogs often intervene in the second level of research”, specified to BFMTV Major Bruno Mourier, head of the canine brigade of the Gard gendarmerie and national referent tracking Saint-Hubert. “Where German Shepherds or Malinois have a tracking ability up to 24 hours after a person goes missing, the Saint-Hubert breed “is renowned with more olfactory quality.”
In addition, two neighbors confirmed that they saw the kid go down this sloping street. Probably between 5:15 p.m. and 6:12 p.m., the precise time at which little Émile’s grandmother called the gendarmes of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence to report the disappearance of her grandson.

A good walker, independent, Émile was quite capable of leaving his grandparents’ house on his own to reach the level of the fountain which was very familiar to him and in front of which he had passed many times, alone or accompanied. Did an accident with a car take place there or did someone remove it? This is a possibility being considered. But it can also be a route taken by the child the previous days or the loss of Emile’s track in front of this point because of the large number of people who came to help look for the child.
A few days ago the mayor François Balique affirmed this to the Parisian: “We are dealing with someone Machiavellian”. A track that had already been mentioned just a few days after the disappearance of Émile by a commander of the gendarmerie at Le Point. “Either the body was covered up after an accident or it was removed.”
