Updates on Brussels Ring Road Rehabilitation Project: Lane Reopening and Traffic Conditions

2023-08-24 16:11:00

Following the showers on Thursday, the marking operations in progress on the east ring of Brussels (R0) have been suspended as part of the rehabilitation project, announced Thursday Sofico, the manager of the Walloon motorway network. The Ring will be reopened to traffic on Friday from 6 a.m. but on a single lane, for security reasons. Some straps will also remain inaccessible.

From Friday around 6 a.m., traffic will be authorized on a single lane on the Brussels ring road, between the “Lillois/Braine-l’Alleud” and “Waterloo” interchanges. The maximum speed will be limited to 70 km/h. Certain access ramps (the “Butte du Lion”, “Genappe” and Mont-Saint-Jean) and exit ramps (“the Butte du Lion”) will remain closed to traffic in the direction of Brussels.

“The objective is still to completely free the ring for the start of the school year on Monday August 28. Marking will resume as soon as the weather conditions allow it”, explains Sofico.

Started at the end of June, this project aims to rehabilitate and secure the Brussels Ring (R0) from Braine-l’Alleud to the Flemish Region, towards the capital.

The total cost of the rehabilitation and security works is estimated at three million euros. Some 36,000 vehicles circulate each day in normal times on the portion of the ring concerned.
