Upgraded M.113 Armored Vehicles for Ukraine: Durability, Reliability, and Remotely Controlled Weapon Systems

2023-10-06 09:28:54

Dozens of M.113 armored vehicles will soon be sent to Ukraine. They are currently being modernized in the south of the country in Aubange. These machines are around forty years old and are therefore benefiting from a makeover. “It is a tracked vehicle weighing one ton, intended for troop transports, with a high defense turret.“, explains Michael Debergh, engineer at “John Cockerill Defense”.

Even though they are old, these versatile vehicles are known for their durability and reliability. The refurbished M.113s will be equipped with a remotely controlled weapon system. Machine guns from the FN Herstal might also complete the equipment as well as spare parts.
The United States has already sent three hundred M113s to Ukraine in recent months. Other European countries have done the same.

The cost of modernizing these M.113s is shared between Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. And our contribution amounts to 11 million euros.
