TV magazine “Land and People” on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. on ORF 2

St. Pölten (OTS) In Ybbsitz on the Eisenstrasse in Lower Austria, the art of blacksmithing is experiencing a new heyday. The blacksmith trade was practiced in this region for centuries and can be documented back to the High Middle Ages. With industrialization, many of the old forging hammers in which metals were processed for everyday objects were abandoned. In recent years, this old craft has been revived, including for tourism purposes, and has since brought back added value and a crackling flair. At the traditional “Blacksmiths’ Christmas”, an event in the run-up to Christmas, Reinhard Fahrengruber, who as a chronicler records the long tradition of blacksmithing in the region, also documents this event, which puts Ybbsitz into a fiery state of emergency every year immediately before Christmas and this year on the 16th . and December 17th.

Further topics from “Land and People” on December 9th:

*Voted audience favorite 2023
We’ll reveal who with the most votes from the television audience became the “Land and People Favorite” in 2023. In the final round of the last broadcast, feed farmers from Upper Austria, turkey breeders from Lower Austria and a dairy farmer from Tyrol competed.

*Sparkling wine from the Weinviertel
Sparkling wine from Austria, like quality wines, is subject to strict testing and origin criteria. In Poysdorf we find out what influence a longer maturation period has on sparkling wines and how choosing the “right” glass contributes to enjoyment.

*Brilliantly cooked for sustainable meat consumption
For our series “Brilliantly cooked – sustainably supplied”, we show what sustainable meat production and careful handling of meat can look like during the Christmas holidays. One example is the Weiß family’s organic farm in the Carinthian Drautal.

*Advent atmosphere at the holiday farm
On a 400-year-old farm in Pölstal, Styria, time stands still for a moment. Far away from the hectic pace of everyday life, guests experience a contemplative Advent in an idyllic natural landscape and in the company of many farm animals.
