The US Customs and Border Protection said it had intercepted the lid of an Egyptian Canopic jar in the shape of the god Emste on August 17.
The administration said the shipment was sent from a merchant to a private buyer in the United States, and the shipper provided contradictory statements about its value.
Experts helped in art Institute and Archeology at the University of Memphis in determining the originality of the artifact. Management said the cap likely dates back to the period from 1069 . BC until 653 B.C.E.
The authorities say this relic is protected by bilateral treaties and is an import archaeological Subject to confiscation under the 1983 Cultural Property Implementation Act Agreement. The artifact has been handed over to the investigating authorities of the Department of Homeland Security for further examination.
