Mass shootings across nightlife districts, college campuses, and holiday celebrations over the Halloween weekend in 2026 left at least 15 dead and more than 80 injured across 11 U.S. states. The deadliest single cluster of violence occurred in Dallas, where four people were killed and 15 others were wounded.
Three Rapid Shootings Shatter Deep Ellum
The violence in Dallas unfolded in the city’s Deep Ellum neighborhood, a popular destination known for its music venues, restaurants, and nightlife. According to local reporting, three separate shootings erupted over the span of roughly 75 minutes early on Nov. 1, 2026.
The first incident was reported at about 12:20 a.m. local time on Elm Street. A second shooting occurred approximately 45 minutes later a block away, followed by a third at about 1:35 a.m. roughly a quarter-mile from the earlier scenes. Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux stated that investigators were still working to determine whether the three incidents were connected. “This is a really big scene. It’s spread out,” Comeaux said.
Police reported that at least one person was in custody, though specific charges were not immediately detailed. Authorities noted that additional patrols had been deployed to the district ahead of the holiday weekend, allowing officers to respond quickly and provide lifesaving aid to victims. No police officers were injured.
Standoffs and Violence Near College Football Traditions and Campuses
The holiday weekend also brought bloodshed to several prominent college towns and major athletic events. In Birmingham, Alabama, one person was killed and eight others were wounded in two separate shootings just outside Legion Field following the annual ‘Magic City Classic’ football game on Saturday night, October 31. The traditional matchup between Alabama State and Alabama A&M drew nearly 70,000 fans.
Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin condemned the violence during a Nov. 1 news conference, calling it a senseless act during one of the city’s most treasured events. Michael Pickett, chief of the Birmingham Police Department, noted that most spectators had already left the stadium property when the first shooting occurred near vendors along Graymont Avenue. Less than eight minutes later, a second shooting erupted nearby. Fire officials reported that victims ranged in age from 19 to about 30 years old, with two individuals listed in critical condition.
Similar violence struck near other campuses nationwide. In Newark, Delaware, six people were shot late Saturday near the University of Delaware campus, prompting the closure of a stretch of Main Street for several hours. In Bloomington, Illinois, a shooting early Sunday near Illinois Wesleyan University left a 19-year-old woman dead and another woman in critical condition, with six others sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. In Fayetteville, Arkansas, six people suffered gunshot wounds early Sunday following an altercation near the University of Arkansas.
Attacks Spread to Holiday Retail Locations
The holiday violence extended beyond nightlife districts into seasonal retail environments. On Friday, Oct. 30, two separate shootings occurred at Spirit Halloween stores in California and Michigan.
In Fairfield, California, a targeted shooting inside a store left a 31-year-old woman dead. Family members told police that the victim was pregnant. Six other people were wounded in the attack, and no immediate arrests were made. In Madison Heights, Michigan, north of Detroit, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot Friday afternoon. Police detained a suspect at the scene after bystanders reportedly assaulted the individual, who was subsequently hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
