The Taliban were quickly overthrown, but it took a decade to hunt down and kill bin Laden in neighboring Pakistan. Even then, the US would not have declared victory and gone home as the Taliban were on the rise again in response to the US occupation. In the never-ending fight to defeat the insurgents, the government in Kabul financed most of its budget from the United States and its allies, while the Pentagon paid the salaries and armaments of the Afghan National Army, ”he said.
