Users complain about excessive wear of the batteries of the iPhone 14

A worrying amount of users have taken to the internet to complain about the speed with which their iPhones 14 has been degraded. Launched just under a year ago, some models in the line already have batteries with less than 90% of its original capacitywhich has raised concerns about the longevity of these devices.

Most of the complaints can be found on Twitter X, which happened to be the network chosen by YouTuber Sam Kohldo canal iUpdate, to share your battery status. As you can see below, his iPhone 14 Pro, purchased at launch, already has a maximum capacity of 90%. Other users also reported the same or worse percentages.

I have had my iPhone 14 Pro for less than a year… this is really unacceptable. ????
Same here, 14 Pro, since September 2022.

iOS, it is worth remembering, starts to display an alert in Settings recommending the user to change the battery of his iPhone as soon as the maximum capacity drops to less than 80%. Taking into account the speed with which the battery of some people has degraded, it is possible that part of them will need to be replaced even before the device completes two years of use.

Here’s what Apple itself says on the subject on your support page:

A typical battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity over 500 full charge cycles when operating under normal conditions. The one-year warranty includes service coverage of a defective battery. If it is out of warranty, Apple will service the battery for a fee.

People who swapped their iPhone 13 for iPhone 14 have also reported worsening battery wear. While it is true that this depends a lot on how the person uses their smartphone, some owners of models launched in 2021 still have capacities above 90%. Despite repeated complaints, Apple has yet to comment on the case.
