PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVVA) – A piece of United States History is being showcased at the ‘Those Who Served War Museum’ in Princeton. A life preserver from the USS West Virginia is being loaned to the museum from West Virginia University.

The battle ship was struck by torpedo’s and bombs at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7 1941. This is the second time the item has been displayed at the museum. It can be viewed by the public until August.

The preserver is a grim reminder of the more than 2,400 American personnel that lost their lives that day.

“This life preserver is a really amazing artifact, when you look at it you really feel the weight of it. It was part of a very significant chapter in our history, a really horrific event,” said Lori Hostuttler, the director for the W.Va. and Regional History Center at WVU Libraries.

If you want to see the life preserver as well as other military artifacts, you can visit the museum Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.
