Vera Health Secures $28.5 Million in Series A Funding

Clinical AI search platform Vera Health has secured $32 million in total funding following a $28.5 million Series A round led by Threshold Ventures, as the startup reports rapid adoption among medical professionals across Europe and global markets.

Threshold Ventures Leads Series A Financing for Vera Health

Vera Health announced a $28.5 million Series A funding round led by Threshold Ventures, with participation from Mantis VC and SV Angel. Existing investors Y Combinator and Gradient tripled their previous investment in the company, bringing Vera Health’s total cumulative funding to $32 million.

The company, founded in 2024 by Taieb Bennani and Maxime Allouch, expanded its internal team from six to twelve employees while growing its user base to more than 800,000 healthcare professionals across 190 countries.

How the Clinical Search Engine Processes Medical Literature

Unlike general-purpose artificial intelligence chatbots designed to generate conversational text with high confidence, Vera Health operates as an intelligent scientific library. The platform searches through more than 60 million peer-reviewed publications, clinical practice guidelines, consensus documents, and drug labels before drafting a response.

The system evaluates source material based on study design, level of evidence, cohort size, data currency, journal quality, and citation impact. Every claim generated by the platform links directly to its underlying research and utilizes a color-coded system to indicate the strength of available evidence.

Maxime Allouch said that “medical knowledge evolves too quickly for any single healthcare professional to read everything, and general-purpose artificial intelligence tools can present uncertain evidence as if it were conclusive. Unlike other tools, we believe it is important to make uncertainty visible. The evidence rating determines what information Vera retrieves and how it drafts its responses, while the healthcare professional brings patient knowledge, clinical context, and their own judgment,” according to Capital Riesgo.

Adoption Rates Among Physicians in Spain and Global Markets

Adoption of the platform has accelerated significantly over the past year. In Spain, more than a quarter of active physicians utilize Vera Health, with family physicians representing the largest user group at 37%, followed by emergency medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and anesthesiology.

Data published by the company indicate that adoption spans all Spanish autonomous communities, with particularly strong penetration in regions such as Galicia. Internationally, the platform is used by approximately one of every four physicians in Spain and Italy, and one of every seven in France.

Taieb Bennani told Capital Riesgo that healthcare professionals are the best data scientists I have ever met.

Institutional Partnerships and Academic Validation

Academic medical centers are examining how the technology functions in acute care environments.

Dr. Bernard P. Chang said that “during a recent emergency shift, I treated a young woman with a cough and shortness of breath. The symptoms could easily have been attributed to a common respiratory infection. Vera Health showed evidence that raised my suspicion of a pulmonary embolism, a potentially fatal blood clot in the lungs, and led me to broaden my evaluation. What interests me is not whether the AI simply gives an answer. It is whether it can reliably display evidence that challenges our initial assumptions and improves clinical reasoning. That is what we are now rigorously evaluating, within the academic medical centers where medicine is actually practiced,” according to Vera Health.

The company maintains that the tool will remain permanently free for licensed healthcare professionals, medical students, and residents worldwide, with revenue generated through institutional integrations for hospitals and health systems.
