The Dutch Vertico and the Austrian Mai say they are taking an important step towards industrial 3D concrete printing. The Accelerator Printhead Solution ensures a high mixing quality of the components for the concrete mix. The new software can monitor the printing process in real time.
The Austrian company Mai has particular experience in the development and construction of mixers and pumps for the concrete industry. This expertise has recently been combined with the knowledge that Vertico has in terms of robotics, software and print heads for 3D concrete printing. “The complementary areas of expertise and similar visions on the development of the concrete market meant that we were able to maximize its potential,” says Hannes Papousek, CEO of Mai International. Together they are now marketing a total solution for concrete printing.

Print head clogging is virtually impossible
The Accelerator Printhead Solution consists of a 1K printhead for concrete printing, a quick changer, a set of pressure and temperature sensors as well as sensors that measure humidity, flow rate, motor torque and other factors. This improves the mixing quality, so that distortions during 3D printing are avoided. It is also very rare that the inlet of the print head becomes clogged. Thanks to a patented lending system, the print head can be cleaned with minimal intervention by the operator. Mai and Vertico talk about almost self-cleaning
Updated HMI
The printing process is operated and monitored from the renewed, central HMI. This and the software of the system contain the specific knowledge of Vertico. “As with any new technology, it is critical to understand what is happening in real time. With our many years of experience, we know what to look out for and we pride ourselves on a good user experience with monitoring and control,” says Volker Ruitinga, CEO of Vertico.
The two companies will continue their collaboration. For example, they are working on several add-ons for the print head, including a system to add color and a rotating print head.
