Fasten your seatbelts ! Welcome aboard one of the completely crazy cars of the new LEGO 2K Drivethe last driving and racing game on console, which literally breaks bricks!
To put it simply, imagine an open world, built in LEGOin which you shop from carsof boats or off-road vehiclesin an atmosphere that will evoke, even to the uninitiated, the world of the legendary Mario Kart (with a twist of Forza, for a more initiated audience).
Fun and humor
It’s LEGO, so obviously it’s fun and colorful. We build cars, we compete in races, and we also explode in our path, to earn boosts that make our little cars go even faster.
We also laugh, of course, with the replies (admittedly sometimes a little heavy!) of the narrators or the characters crossed on the way, always well named: Sally Pocrite, Axel Hère, Ambre Héyage… to name but a few.
What is all this for? Become a legendary driver of course, and above all try to win the coveted Celestial Trophy !
LEGO 2K Drive takes place in a vast open world where players travel through the different regions of Bricklandia. Regions that are also very beautiful, very well done, with multi-coloured brick constructions that we would almost regret smashing into pieces while passing behind the wheel of our supercharged cars!
Each pilot can choose different game modes, knowing that the Story mode is the most suitable to embark on the adventure, because it allows you to gradually become familiar with the different controls.
Then, just go for it, head in the handlebars. The game does almost everything else. You’re on the road, driving a very nervous racing car with an overinflated engine.
If you go off the road, like a magic wand, your big engine turns into an all-terrain vehicle, capable of facing the most tortuous paths on the map. Try a nice takeoff also from the top of a hill, you won’t be disappointed with the result.
A lake or large river to cross? Above all, don’t panic, your racing car turns into a racing boat, to continue heading straight towards your objective.
All these transformations happen automatically, so it is very easy to take control of the game, even for beginners. Just focus on the ride, which is very pleasant and sits between arcade game and simulation game (sandbox level!) and to know how to master your skids to go to victory.
We necessarily think of Mario Kart
Why do we say that this game is reminiscent of legendary Mario Kart? Because it’s fun and is played in fun mode too.
And, above all, because of these items to pick up throughout the race, which provide advantages: speed boost, missiles… There is no banana peel, but plenty of other spells to cast on its competitors to deprive them of first place!
Build your own cars
Another essential hallmark of the game: LEGO 2K Drive allows players to build their own vehicles to their liking, with over 1,000 unique LEGO pieces made available throughout their adventure, plus a wide selection of colors, decals, amenities and more.
Another satisfaction, we can play alone or with others. On a split screen in local mode, or online with friends (PlayStation+ subscription required).
We have talked a lot about satisfaction. Because this game really only gave us pleasure. There is, however, one aspect that should not be overlooked: the financial aspect. Because LEGO 2K Drive is not given anyway, and can even become expensive.
60 euros for the basic version, it has become a classic starting price and we can be satisfied with this version for fun without paying a penny more. But if you let yourself be tempted by a slightly more extensive edition, with additional vehicles and other frills, it can go up to 120 euros, which is starting to do a lot for a very nice little LEGO game, but everything likewise.
Except it’s not over! We saw it right away, on the home screen, this tab which encourages you to go and buy credits to buy additional coins and advance faster in the game. These famous microtransactions which can, nothing, cost an arm and which you have to be wary of, like a piece of LEGO forgotten on the carpet.

- It’s so good to play there, that you almost don’t want to go to the workshop to make your cars!
- A bit repetitive after a while
- A messy map after a few hours of play
- High-end versions that are expensive, up to 120 euros!
- Beware of micro-transactions which can also be expensive
In conclusion. LEGO 2K Drive is a very nice game, for everyone and ideal for spending good times with the family. It’s LEGO, we have fun without going for high-level piloting, even if some challenges are still quite difficult to meet. It’s fun, colorful, the gameplay is well balanced. We take pleasure in a universe worthy of a license that has made us dream since childhood. You just have to be careful not to get bogged down in extra spending on microtransactions and settle for a basic version that is more than enough to enjoy.
