Former world heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko insists he is fighting the “biggest fight of his life” by taking part in defending his country against the Russian invasion.
Vladimir and his brother, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that they are “ready to die” fighting for their country against Russian forces, the newspaper reported.The Independent” British.
But Wladimir Klitschko, who holds the longest cumulative heavyweight title ever in the “noble art” sport, insists the sport could play a “decisive” role in the war by imposing a ban on Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
Wladimir Klitschko said in newspaper statements: “People say that this is the biggest fight I’ve ever had, and I agree with them. It’s sad that we realize how terrifying war is.”
He continued, “We believe that sanctions against Russia in various fields, including sports, are very important. If you prevent them from sports competition, the athletes will ask their leader why no one will compete with us? And here I repeat, this is not against the athletes but for the sake of peace in Ukraine. .”
Klitschko believes that every sport’s governing body can make a difference by following the decisions of the International Olympic Committee to exclude Russian athletes from international events.
The Klitschko brothers reiterated their commitment to fight for the freedom of their homeland, with Vitaly saying he was “proud to see how patriotic the people are”.
And he added: “We are not interested in how strong the Russian army is, we are ready to fight, ready to die for our homeland and our families because it is our country and our future, and therefore we will fight whoever comes to our house in order to steal our future from us.”
He added that there was a “huge national movement” to defend the country and that Ukrainians of all backgrounds were ready to take up arms.
He added, “We have withstood one of the world’s most powerful armies. The desire for independence is our main priority. We defend our families, our city, our country and our future.”
And he added, “There is a huge national movement now, so imagine that the old people want to fight in addition to doctors, artists, theater actors and other professionals that we did not expect to participate in the fight…”But they come to us now, and they are ready to fight. While fellow Ukrainian professional boxer Oleksandr Usyk also confirmed that he has joined a regional defense battalion and is ready to fight.
In an interview with CNN, he said, “It may sound emotional…but my soul is sacrifice for my country and my family, so I don’t feel afraid at all.”
And he added: “There is just confusion about how this can happen in the twenty-first century?”
He concluded by saying, “I really do not know when I will return to the ring, but my country and my honor are more important to me than the championship belt.”
