Herzerlbaum lights up for the first time – Bussiplatz is there again – Christkind 2023 is 26-year-old Ramona
Vienna (OTS) – In exactly one week the time has finally come: next Friday, November 10th, the Vienna Christmas market will open its doors. In the evening, Mayor Michael Ludwig presented the illuminated Herzerlbaum and Bussiplatz, two of the most popular and probably best-known attractions in the market, for the first time in the presence of the Viennese Christ Child.
Ludwig: “Christmas markets convey hope, joy and confidence”

With unique attractions such as the Herzerlbaum, Bussiplatz and much more, the Christmas market in front of the town hall creates a Christmas experience that 3 million people enjoyed last year and will hopefully win many hearts this year too,”
said Mayor Ludwig.
Pure romance under the sweetheart tree
A maple-leaved plane tree that was planted exactly 150 years ago in the northern half of the town hall park is once again transformed into the Herzerl tree, which is popular far beyond the borders of Vienna. A total of 200 red hearts have been carefully attached to the tree over the past few weeks and create a romantic spectacle.
Last year, the attraction’s lighting technology was completely overhauled. Since then, as is the case at the Vienna Christmas market, only energy-saving LEDs have been used, which can be controlled individually and enable a particularly atmospheric effect when the heart tree goes out for a short time every 30 minutes, only to be “hit” a little later by the flying heart of the heart flight. and gradually become enlightened.
Finally back again: The Bussiplatz
Anyone who is in a particularly romantic mood can look forward to a comeback this year of the Bussiplatz, which is located just a few meters away from the Herzerlbaum. On a pedestal, lovers and all those who want to become lovers have the opportunity to take photos together – the Herzerl tree is always perfectly presented. Mayor Ludwig was already impressed by the atmospheric attraction in the town hall park on Friday evening.
Christkind 2023 comes from Liesing
The Christ Child will be portrayed by Ramona from Liesing in 2023. The 26-year-old is currently completing a master’s degree in sports science at the University of Vienna and is already working as a training therapist. Ramona is already looking forward to her mission as a Christ child:“Embodying the Viennese Christ Child means a lot to me because as a child I believed in the Christ Child myself and this idea was always important to me. Years later, being able to give back some of this magic and make children’s eyes shine fills me with great joy.”
Ramona has her first appointment at the Christmas market on the opening day, when Mayor Ludwig and the South Tyrolean governor, Arno Kompatscher, will jointly carry out the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree on the town hall square and the rest of the Christmas world will also shine for the first time. In the following weeks until Christmas, the Viennese Christ child will continue to visit the town hall square, including in the children’s hut.
