Vienna again tops the list of the ten most livable cities in the world by the British “Economist” group. The Austrian capital scored again with a high level of security, good public facilities and a rich cultural offering. Copenhagen, Melbourne and Sydney follow on the other places. Vienna already held the top position in the ranking in 2018, 2019 and 2022.

Several Western European cities, including Stockholm, Rotterdam and London, fell significantly compared to 2022. While their ratings did not deteriorate significantly, cities in Asia and the Middle East are catching up. The report said some Asian metropolises benefited from the region’s recovery from the pandemic. Strikes and violent protests in Western Europe, which have recently been occurring more frequently, were also pointed out.

The Canadian city of Vancouver came in fifth. Zurich, which was third last year, slipped to sixth place. There are no German cities in the top ten, with Frankfurt and Berlin sharing 17th place.

Paris landed in 24th place. According to the authors of the studies, the massive demonstrations against the pension reform affected the rating of the French capital, which was ranked 19th last year. For comparison: London is in 46th place this year, New York in 69th place. According to the analysis, Damascus, Tripoli, Lagos and Kiev are currently among the ten most unattractive cities in the world.

30 criteria were evaluated in the five categories of stability, healthcare, education, culture and environment, and infrastructure. Vienna scored well in all. The only drawback was the lack of major sporting events.
