The Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone intervened early Thursday evening at the entrance to the De Brouckère metro station in downtown Brussels for an individual who violently hit his head against a wall station building, local police spokesperson Ilse Van de Keere told Belga on Thursday evening.

The scene was impressive for the many commuters who went to the De Brouckère metro station at a busy time at the end of the day. An individual, visibly mentally ill, hit his head violently against a wall to the point of losing a lot of blood.

Several people called the 112 emergency center and an ambulance went to the scene. The paramedics tried to approach the individual, who presented a danger to himself, but they were unable to control him. The police were then called. A patrol intervened, set up a security perimeter and was able to help the paramedics take care of the injured man.
