FPÖ policy has had no effect – People’s Party guarantees Austria’s decisive role in the EU asylum and migration package

Vienna (OTS) “Today’s agreement on a new EU asylum and migration pact marks the first steps for a historic development in Europe,” said city councilor Karl Mahrer, regional party chairman of the Vienna People’s Party. And further: “This also shows the clear difference to the FPÖ and a former Interior Minister Herbert Kickl: While populism and polemics lead to closed doors, a consistent line, the search for partners and constructive discussions pay off!”

The pact, which came about after intensive negotiations between the member states and the European Parliament, also means decisive improvements in external border protection and a significant signal for a change of course on the issue of migration in Europe. “This is clear evidence that the People’s Party was and continues to be the driving force behind rethinking in Europe,” said Hannes Taborsky, security spokesman for the Vienna People’s Party. And further:
“We have shown that with consistent commitment and the ability to unite European partners, real change is possible.”

Stop illegal migration to Europe – Secure the EU’s external borders

Taborsky emphasizes that the pact aims to effectively combat illegal migration and reduce migration pressure to Europe and Austria: Today’s agreement paved the way for uniform border procedures at the external borders.

People who come from countries that are considered relatively safe and therefore have little chance of asylum will be subject to fast-track procedures in the future. Until a decision is made as to whether asylum will be granted, these people should be accommodated directly at the border. An agreement has also been reached on easier deportations to third countries and electronic registration of asylum seekers at the external border.

Vienna must finally assume its own responsibility

Finally, Mahrer calls on the Vienna city government to end its undifferentiated welcome policy and thus also prevent internal migration. “This agreement also offers an opportunity for Vienna. It is time for the SPÖ and neos to finally take on their share of responsibility – Vienna must no longer be seen as a social magnet,” concluded Mahrer.
