Bang! Bang! The first competitive match of the season ended with a loud cup bang for VSK Football. Grönvitt turned around and won 2–1 away to Hammarby at Tele2 Arena in front of nearly 20,000 spectators and over 700 VSK supporters who had traveled there.

VSK started the meeting in the first group match of the Swedish Cup energetically for the first ten minutes, but it was the home team that took the lead. August Mikkelsen put the ball behind new VSK keeper Johan Brattberg.

But VSK shamelessly continued to drum and after Simon Gefvert arranged a corner on the right wing, green and white could equalize. Ibrahim Diabate stayed in front and put the 1-1 ball.

Gefvert was also involved in VSK’s management goals. His cross reached new signing Mattéo Ahlinvi who finished distinctly behind Hammarby goalkeeper Oliver Dovin.

The match turned and 2–1 went to the break.

In the second half, the Allsvenska newcomer continued to have most of the game and the most dangerous chances. But there were no more goals and VSK’s cup victory was a fact despite a strong Hammarby forcing at the end.

The over 700 green and white supporters on tele2 were clearly heard.

– It’s great fun, it shows what a club VSK is and what interest there is. It is noticeable that many people are affected and want to be part of this year’s waiting in the allsvenskan, team captain Simon Johansson told vskfotboll.nu before the cup match about the large turnout.

VSK has been successful in the cup game in recent years with a semi-final place in 2021 (against Häcken) as a handsome top.

The next cup challenge and new Allsvenskan opposition awaits next Sunday: Mjällby at Strandvallen.

The last group stage match is played at home at Hitachi Energy Arena on March 4 when Sundsvall visits.
