At the time of the mining operation, almost 1000 workers and their families lived in the Weißwasser mining settlement in the Upper Austrian-Styrian border area. Jet, a type of coal, bituminous coal, iron ore and bauxite were once mined here as a raw material for aluminium. In the 1960s, the settlement was completely razed. The wilderness in the Reichraminger Hintergebirge has largely recaptured the area.
