Bern plans to pay a lump sum of 3,000 francs per refugee to the cantons, announces the RTS. The objective: to promote their integration. The amount could be insufficient.

According to the latest figures from the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), published on Friday, 22,119 Ukrainian refugees have so far received protection status S in Switzerland. The Confederation should pay a lump sum of 3,000 francs per refugee to the cantons to help with their integration, announces the “RTS».
Although Bern has not yet given its final decision, some cantons have already given their opinions. In Valais, Christophe Darbellay, State Councilor in charge of Education and the Economy, is rather satisfied with this “significant” amount of 3000 francs.
The canton of Fribourg, for its part, considers this amount acceptable as a starting point but insufficient if the refugees were to stay permanently in Switzerland. For the canton of Neuchâtel, this will not make it possible to offer a quality linguistic encouragement offer. Florence Nater, State Councilor in charge of Social Cohesion, clarified to the “RTS” that an urgent credit of nearly one million francs had already been requested from the competent commission of the Grand Council.
