Louiseville’s wastewater treatment facilities are no longer meeting demand. This situation forces the City to postpone residential and industrial projects.
“It’s a shitty file (sic)! We have made two requests in the past and it has always been refused. There is still a document missing,” said Mayor Yvon Deshaies.
To meet demand, Louiseville needs a third wastewater treatment basin. Building and updating the sanitary facilities will cost several million dollars.
“We give a lot of money to Montreal and Quebec. We also need it to carry out our projects. No basin, no construction and, without development, we must increase municipal taxes, “said the first magistrate.
A meeting between the City and the provincial deputy, Simon Allaire, took place at the beginning of the week.
“I found it important to know where Louiseville was in its steps. I understand that they are doing their homework,” explained Mr. Deshaies.
While demand for housing and single-family homes is exploding in the municipality of 7,500 inhabitants, at least 125 residential lots are ready to be built. The developers are there, but it is impossible for the City to expand its sewer system.
“Developers who want to build cannot wait three years. They go elsewhere. They tell me: “Mr. Mayor, when are you going to open your pool? (sic) “We don’t know yet,” recalled Mayor Deshaies.
He is also worried about the second phase of development of his regional industrial park. He explains that he must refuse industrial projects at this time.
The village of St-Célestin has also reached its full wastewater treatment capacity. His residential complex is blocked and hopes to quickly settle this file to take advantage of the battery sector.
