The Minister of Transport, Rachel Sanchezhas requested this Tuesday a vote of confidence to carrierswhom he has urged to resume their activity after the aid announced this Monday, and has opened the door to possibility of limiting fuel increases.
“We are very aware of the claims of the sector and specifically of the self-employed and SMEsand, therefore, I ask you for a vote of confidence”, he said in an interview on Telecinco, in which he reiterated that the measures applied from next month will be “effective”.
Faced with criticism from the sector for lack of specificity -which has caused part of the employers’ associations to break their unity and join the strikes that until now have been carried out by SMEs and the self-employed-, the minister explained that they still have to study with Brussels if other measures could be promotedamong which he has cited as an example limiting increases in fuel prices.
“We are going to specify these measures as soon as possible, but I ask the self-employed and those carriers who have decided not to resume their activity to do soSanchez said.
A part “has tried to exalt”
Regarding the callers of the indefinite strike that since last day 14 affects the Spanish supply chain, grouped in the Platform for the Defense of the Transport of Goods by Road, has said that it is a minority “that has tried to exalt, has prevented work and has generated a lot of crisis and tension”.
After the agreement reached this Monday between the Government and the National Committee for Road Transport (CNTC) that includes a reduction in the price of fuel for carriers for 500 million eurosSánchez has ruled out that Fenadismer, one of the largest associations of road transporters, has “joined” the strike.
Fenadismer, Fetransa and Feintra, organizations integrated into the CNTC, assured in a joint statement that the Government’s announcement “It does not allow for the moment to resume the activity until the measures are detailed carriers require in order to get out of the ruin they find themselves in”.
The minister stressed that Fenadismer only “He has expressed that an agreement that has been validated by the majority lacks specificity”, the legitimate representatives of the sector, who are also regulated by law; hence “the logical thing” is for the government to sit down with the CNTC.
The demands of the platform “are the same as those of the CNTC”, but include some that are “unaffordable” and others that are already agreed upon; the important thing “is not to take the photo, but to see what measures we are adopting”.
