Mélissa Bedard and her husband, Karl Fortier, form an exemplary blended family since the latter has decided to take care of the house and the children while she multiplies her professional projects. If Mélissa Bédard can have fun professionally by touching all sorts of things, it’s because she knows that her loved ones are safe at home. Like many people, the pandemic has upset the organization of the tribe. “When the schools closed it was total chaos. We had the six children at home: five were doing school online and the youngest no longer had daycare.
Karl was then very happy to take a short break from work to be present for both his guys and my daughters.
But the couple finally decided to keep this organization which works rather well. “We decided to be a modern family. Dad is at home and mom works: it’s a structure that we see more and more and that makes as much sense as if the roles were reversed.
“It’s a choice we made together. I have an extraordinary lover: thanks to him, our family lives a beautiful balance! When I go to work, as he is very present, it takes away all the anxiety that I would experience if I had to manage a nanny or a babysitter. Especially since we realized that it was impossible to ask Grandma to look after the children; she doesn’t even know how Wi-Fi works at home.” The children also benefit from another family dynamic, because they do not do the same activities with dad as they do with mom. “Karl is sporty, while I am not at all. But there is a nice balance in all that, and I am still often at home.
Above all, this structure allows Mélissa to do things that fascinate her. “I choose things that lead me to grow. I don’t do any projects for the money. I choose according to what it brings me internally and what it allows me to learn. I also really like to please people and bring them to light.”
In her new show on CASA, Happy Storage, she visits artists to help them restore order to a room in their house, accompanied by Mylène Houle Morency, specialist in storage and organization. . “Most people think they are tidy, but storage designed the way Mylène goes much further. It is a system that aims to help everyday life, so that everything is easy to organize and store. For example, the contents of almost all bathroom cabinets are misplaced. Mylène is going to show us that if we put all our bath stuff in the same basket, in the closet near the bath, it’s much easier to access it. We take the basket out when we take a bath, and then we put it back in the wardrobe. We didn’t have to look for anything, and it’s easy to replace.”
The new “Marie Kondo” from Quebec admits that this storage method still takes time. “We are talking about an average of 40 to 42 hours of work for a kitchen, for example.
