We use it daily without realizing… a “hidden” ingredient in our foods increases the risk of stroke

Al Marsad newspaper: Charity Stroke UK has revealed that salt is one of the causes of high blood pressure, the main cause of stroke.

She said that one of the main factors to consider to avoid stroke is controlling salt intake, explaining that a lot of the salt we eat is hidden in processed foods such as ready meals, chips, nuts, cakes, biscuits and processed meats.

Stroke UK recommends avoiding adding salt to food when cooking or at the table, and we can replace it with fresh ginger, lemon juice, cayenne pepper or dried herbs and spices to flavor the food instead.

She continued: “Some people use low-sodium products to help them reduce salt, but be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before using them, as they are not suitable for people with kidney problems who use medications that affect potassium levels.”

Stroke UK also revealed that there are other factors that cause stroke, including smoking and drinking alcohol.
