Gust De Rydt would never have suspected, at the dawn of his 102 years, that he would receive a letter from the municipality of Brasschat inviting his parents to enroll their son in kindergarten. “We were shocked for a moment, then we burst out laughing,” his son Pat told our colleagues at Newspaper.

But how is it that this letter was sent? The most likely explanation is that his year of birth was entered into the computer as “21”, which the person in charge must have read as 2021.

The Alderman for Education, Inez Ven (N-VA), does not understand how the incident could have happened and suspects the computer system.
