Weather on earth – yesterday, today and tomorrow

Those who worry about rapid changes in climate forget yesterday. Geological studies have identified and recorded ice ages, floods and droughts that occurred here in the past. The traces of ancient climate and natural changes in rock layers and ice deposits are still being studied scientifically. The modern world knows about the natural climate changes that happened centuries, thousands and millions of years ago and the changes, destructions and extinctions they brought to the living world.

In the 1970s, ‘Geomythology’ grew as a scientific discipline to study the natural phenomena that were described alone and in general in societies that existed in many lands in ancient human cultures. In the literary work of Professor Timothy J Burbery, there are references to many ancient customs, beliefs and stories that were the basis of many ancient cultures. Although the fire-breathing bird/animal, the snake and strange creatures guarding the treasure, the one-eyed creatures and other gigantic creatures may be wildly imaginative, the science of geomythology is to carefully study the nature, topography, plants, animals and climate information of each region and extract what can be added to today’s knowledge.

In ancient works, it is mentioned as God’s wrath and in the stories handed down from generation to generation, the splitting of the earth (land) and the sinking of the water are described as the reason for the destruction of many societies. From the scientific knowledge available in modern anthropology, there are conclusions that primitive humans may have spread from the Neanderthal valley to different parts of the world. It is more likely that humans and other organisms originated in one place and spread throughout the world, but people who were in different parts of the world grew and developed due to their climate and food conditions and mixed with each other later. Many stories can be about one community conquering another and their beliefs, customs, habits and practices being applied to or spread to the lower class. In present-day Europe, in the African region of Egypt, near India’s Gujrat, and so on, the ancient remains under the sea due to the flood have been found in the observations of marine geology and oceanography to support the stories. Many ancient civilizations may have suddenly disappeared due to such floods. Survivors of natural disasters may have migrated to the nearest safe terrain and tried to recreate the old habitat there.

Due to the changes in the sea level, the land becomes the sea and some small islands are exposed. In a volcanic eruption on August 26, 1883, the island of Krakato in the Indonesian archipelago was partially submerged and only one volcano remained. Current studies show that the volcanic area named Anak Krakatoa (Krankata’s Child) is on the decline. New records/studies show that the eastern seaboard is increasing and the west coast is decreasing in that region in 2018 and 2019.

Realizing that Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, is sinking, they have started the process of moving the capital city to another new location. On December 26, 2004, a 9.1 M undersea earthquake near Sumatra claimed 228,000 lives in 14 countries. The equatorial region of Indonesia and Malaysia has the largest proportion of active volcanoes in the world since 1900. The fact that Indonesia (129), Papua New Guinea (94) and the Philippines (63) together account for 286 of the world’s 1,500 active volcanoes in this small area points to a greater danger. The fact that 50-60 small and large earthquakes occur every day in the Indonesian area is a proof of such an unstable sea floor. The Sunda Plate, which is subducting under the Indo-Australian Plate, includes Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea. Active volcanoes in these areas reflect the weakening of magma that has flown rapidly beneath the plate for ages. Currently, the Eurasian plate is pushing the Sunda plate to the south, the Philippine plate to the west, the Indo-Australian plate to the north and the Australian plate to the north, which is evidence that the Sunda plate is subducting.

The Pacific Ocean is located on the north, south, west, and adjacent to the Americas.
Global pressure is increasing on a large scale. In the Atlantic Ocean and the Siberian side of the Arctic Plate, large amounts of geothermal heat are released daily through tectonic plates on the Canada and Greenland side. The ring-shaped Pacific plate extending from North America to the Eurasian plate is known as the ‘Ring of Fire’. There are over 10,000 active geothermal vents on the ocean floor known to science over the past 1,500 years. Warm water currents from the ocean floor and cyclones fueled by extreme pressure fluctuations in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans are a small indication of the severity of the situation.

Geothermal heat, currently accumulated under the Earth’s plates by thousands of years of magma flow, is making a concerted effort to release it through small and large tectonic plates. In such a way, Siberia, Canada, Europe, the Mediterranean part where the Arab countries and the African continent meet, the Tanzania and Madagascar part of Africa, the area with China and Japan, the north-eastern part of India, and parts of Gujarat and Pakistan can be turned into a very intense earthquake zone.
According to scientific studies in 2009, there are studies that may cause severe earthquakes in the Sumatra region of Indonesia in the next decades. On February 6, 2023, an earthquake in the Turkey-Syria region claimed the lives of over 30,000 people.

It is very difficult to survive the change of nature, where human society is divided into different nations, different faiths, castes, economic statuses, non-cooperative, quarreling and competing and man is rendered helpless. That earth change will be more terrible than the scenes in the Hollywood movie ‘2012’, which was released in 2009 and directed by Roland Emery.

In recent years we have had the experience of the modern scientific community together facing the epidemic of covid. But it is doubtful whether nature will give us such facilities or time. Because we humans are only one category/class among millions of living beings in nature. The human society of more than 800 crores is spread in different parts of the world, however, the human society that competes with each other to get the upper hand by endangering, and keeps the extremely destructive nuclear weapons, has to recognize the impending disaster and teach each one what to do and what not to do and work carefully to ensure the safety and survival of other living beings. The way to salvation is to join the oceans by using all the current facilities, just like the clues in the fish incarnation story of Hindu mythology and the story of Noah in the Old Testament of Christian faith.
