The thunderstorms and rain during the night were less bad and heavy than feared. Most of the rain came down around Bielefeld, with around 25 liters per square meter. According to the German Weather Service, showers and local thunderstorms are still to be expected in the north of NRW today, but these should subside over the course of the day.

The German Weather Service has issued an official severe weather warning for parts of Westphalia. It is valid until 0.30 a.m. and affects the districts of Hochsauerland, Gütersloh, Höxter, Lippe, Paderborn, Siegen-Wittgenstein, Soest and Warendorf. Thunderstorms, heavy rain, gusts of wind with speeds between 65 and 85 km/h and small-grain hail are expected.

8:56 p.m .: Up to 40 liters of rain per square meter possible

In the night of Thursday, strong thunderstorms with heavy rain will move over NRW and finally reach the Weser. Regionally, more than 40 liters of rain per square meter are possible, reports the WDR weather department.
