Apple always takes advantage of operating system updates to launch some features that end up being exclusive to those who live in the United States. This is the case, for example, with the Clean Energy Charging option.

This year (and still in this category), Maçã implemented the Electric Grid Forecast (Grid Forecast).

With it, you can see, through the Home app (Home), a forecast for your area that will highlight the times with cleaner energy, helping to reduce carbon emissions — in addition to being able to see which times are the least clean.

Compatibility

The function is available on iPhones running iOS 17 or later, iPads with iPadOS 17 or later and Apple Watches running watchOS 10 at a minimum.

You also need to be in the USA (with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii), in addition to having an internet connection and location services activated for the Home app.

How to use Power Grid Forecast

Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch. Select the “Energy” category for this forecast to be displayed on the screen. In the case of Mac, the sidebar must be visible.

You will see some bars, with the green ones showing the times when there is cleaner energy in your region. If you don’t see any, the app was unable to predict it in the near future.

You can also choose to receive notifications during periods in which the electricity generated for your home comes from clean or renewable energy.

On iPhone/iPad and Mac, tap/click the bell located in the energy widget or go to the three dots (in the Home app), select “Energy” and activate “Power Grid Forecast Notifications”.

You can still do the same by pressing the power widget on the iPhone/iPad home screen and choosing “Notify me” (in the case of the iPhone/iPad) or, in the case of the Mac, clicking the mouse while pressing the ⌃ control key on the home screen to choose “Notify About Next Cleaner Power Schedule”.

On Apple Watch, notifications are shown if you have them turned on on the iPhone paired with it.

Pretty cool, don’t you think?! Let’s now hope that the feature will soon be expanded to other countries! ????
