What is this eco-friendly battery, made of “materials found in the Grand-Est”?

With their eco-designed battery, they hit the nail on the head. Aequo, a start-up Strasbourg, is on the verge of getting noticed in this highly coveted market. Specializing in the development of eco-designed electrical energy production and storage solutions, Aequo has embarked on the design of a non-toxic, safe, and easily recyclable battery with, to make matters worse, great longevity. In fact, the famous invention regenerates when resting.

“An innovation patented in 2019” and which is now just waiting for funds to produce these eco-friendly batteries on a large scale, explains Thomas Jaeger, founder and president of Aequo SAS. For the moment, the start-up, which has two full-time members but also partners in the world of science and development aid, has a forecast plan to raise funds in 2024 of 800,000 to one million euros in order to begin the first industrializations and secure its first markets.

“Materials that abound in the Grand-Est”

Exit lithium therefore, because one of the particularities of the Aequo battery is to be composed of non-toxic and recyclable products, “clays and carbon materials, products which are found abundantly in the Grand-Est”, insists Thomas Jaegers. A battery with dimensions similar to an LR20 but which is the subject of research to miniaturize it.

If they have “less instantaneous power than a lithium battery, recognizes Thomas Jaeger, these batteries on the other hand have the same, or even better, longevity”. Nothing really bothersome for the Alsatian company which aims, by associating it with a low consumption temperature sensor that it develops also and that it will market with its battery, the market of small electronic and connected devices. Such as probes, wireless sensors, detectors, etc. “In sealed objects, devices which are often on standby and need a significant longevity without having to change them regularly, especially when they are difficult to access,” further explains Thomas Jaegers.

Produced by hand for the moment in a few hundred copies, the eco-designed Aequo batteries are just waiting to meet a prospector, an industrialist, who sets his rocket on fire.
